Restrictions make us often want just that particular “forbidden fruit” more than anything else.
The messages of my friends and acquaintances clearly show that isolation from the others is a very individual experience. I feel deeply the same fears as all the others. Staying calm and positive is not always easy. One has to balance between the need for hugs and close discussions and taking the risks of being infected or infect.
As I have listened to the others – and myself – I have found that many people try to find the guilty ones around. Who is to blame for missing protection, and information, too much or too little freedom, or closed or open borders? NOTHING is GOOD enough!
We are sometimes behaving like small children, who are unhappy that they cannot do the opposite things simultaneously. We don’t like the authorities, as they limit our freedom. Nevertheless, they should solve all the problems connected with the virus. And they should do it AT ONCE, but without causing us any inconvenience.
What is the matter with us? I think we are simply AFRAID and WORRIED. Those are not pleasant feelings, and it’s easier not to show them or even admit them to ourselves. It feels far more comfortable to be angry, to blame others, to demand, to accuse than to confess our fears.
The children have us, adults, to keep them calm and show how to behave during these special times. But who is taking us in her or his arms and consoling us: “Everything will be alright, just trust me!” We don’t know whom to trust, so we rather suspect everything.
How to keep calm and confident? Should we concentrate on life today and enjoy it to the fullest? Sure. Or should we go back to the good old memories and seek some comfort? Or maybe just start planning life after the restrictions. It must have something better to offer, or?
Every one of us has to find personal answers to these questions. My solution is to live at the same time in history, today, and the future. That has always been my way. Respecting the precious gifts that life has given makes me happy. Those are experiences that nobody can take away from me. The good old memories make me confident that there might still be something more to expect after the lockdown is over - with new treasures of life to share with other people.
In between the past and the future, there is today, which is the main thing. And it’s not so bad after all with family around – and a lot of time to write new books!
Let’s be patient!
