Are you one of those people who take their time and carefully ponder all the options? Or do you rather rush forward with enthusiasm and let loose?
As a child, I loved constructing things. The planning process was at least as interesting as the execution. I would use anything to build my fantasy compositions of stone, sand, dry leaves, and moss – all the free treasures from nature.
On my tenth birthday, I got an exceptional present from the village vicarage. It was a beautiful package of colorful construction papers. I admired the bright and even paper sheets with the ready glue on the back.
I could have done anything from these fine papers. But did I?
No! I valued the present so much that I didn’t want to waste the opportunity on anything indifferent. I kept on working with my usual free material until I had lost touch with the hobby crafts. The paper present was safe in the bottom of my drawer for years. Finally, l gave it to my younger sisters, who gladly used it for their purposes.
My children have had the opportunity to play both with the materials from the shop and the treasures from nature. In my childhood family, the resources were scarce, but I felt that nothing was missing.
With some fantasy, we can enjoy even the most modest substances and build whole worlds from them! Maybe that’s why I started telling stories and writing books. -- But that’s another story!
